Travel to Mt. Wellington and walk through a Winter Wonderland

It wouldn’t be winter without snow. To experience a winter wonderland in Tasmania all you have to do is travel to Mt. Wellington. Located about 20 minutes from Hobart, Mt. Wellington will provide you with the opportunity to go sledding, skiing or just build a snowman.

Visit the Museum of Old and New Art (Mona)

Mona is located within the Moorilla winery on the Berriedale peninsula in Hobart.  Some eleven kilometres north of Hobart, Tasmania—approximately twenty-five minutes by ferry or twenty minutes by road.

Not everything on holiday has to be heart-pumping and super adventurous. Sometimes you can relax and take a quiet day. The best place to do that is at Mona.

The museum presents antiquities, modern and contemporary art from the David Walsh collection. Walsh has described the museum as a “subversive adult Disneyland.”

Mona was officially opened on 21 January 2011. Along with its frequently updated indoor collection, Mona also hosts the annual MOFO and Dark Mofo festivals which showcase large-scale public art and live performances.

Wander around the Salamanca Market

Every Saturday (except Christmas Day or Anzac Day) from 8.00 am to 3.00 pm, Salamanca Place comes alive with the famous Salamanca Market. Salamanca Market is operated by Hobart City Council. Over 300 stallholders sell fresh and gourmet produce, arts, crafts and handiwork from all over Tasmania, interstate and overseas. Ranking as one of the top attractions in Tasmania, the Salamanca Market is another good reason to make your stay in Hobart last for more than just a few days.

Surf’s Up! Hit the Waves

When thinking of things to do in the winter, you probably don’t think about surfing but you should! Some of the biggest waves are produced during the winter right off the Tasmanian coast. Grab your surfboard and head to the beach. You won’t regret it.

There is no reason why you should have to travel to an exotic international location to have fun during a winter holiday. Travel to Tasmania and you can make memories that will last a lifetime. Take part in some of the activities or festivals we suggest or venture out on your own and explore the island. There is so much to see and do that no matter what you do you won’t be disappointed.
